Job Description

The role of a caseworker is to work closely with individuals and families to help them overcome day to day challenges and to improve their quality of life. A caseworker is someone who can provide knowledge, expertise, and guidance to people who need help. 

As a caseworker, you will be assigned to 1-3 families and will be responsible for identifying, supporting and monitoring areas where you can assist.  

Examples of what a caseworker does:

  • Help people apply for Zakat or financial assistance
  • Speaking to social workers
  • Educate individuals on their constitutional rights and obligations 
  • Helping people find a job or brush up their resume
  • Arrange for transportation
  • Arrange food delivery
  • Finding affordable housing  
  • Speaking to landlords
  • Assessing financial information
  • Help create a budget

Qualifications

The ideal candidate :

  • Has strong problem-solving skills
  • Is organized and is resourceful
  • Is up to date with laws, regulations and social programs (training provided)
  • Is able to speak 2 languages (English/Urdu, French/Arabic etc)
  • Is patient, compassionate and has a positive attitude.
  • Never says “that’s impossible”
  • Good communication skills are essential
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Commitments

  • Typically 1  to 3 hours a week or as needed.
  • Willing to travel and meet with individuals on a monthly basis or as needed.
  • Participate in quarterly meetings with Hilm staff (online meeting or in person).
