Our Story
Spiritual growth at the individual level is essential and a requirement of our faith. However, this should be in tune with the growth of the community as a whole. While Hilm is still in its early stages, our long-term dream is for Hilm to be a place where all members of the Muslim community can find a home.
Building a community requires two important components: education and support. As such, Hilm’s two branches endeavor to provide educational activities for groups of all ages, as well as social services for the Muslim community. Educational activities include seminars, life skill training, children’s Saturday school and learning circles, while social service activities include food & cloth distribution drives, orphan sponsorships, elderly aid, meals on wheels and general support of needy community members.
Those who spend in prosperity and adversity, and those who suppress anger and pardon men; and Allah loves those who do good. (Al Quran 3:135)
Our Mission
The concept of social justice and community building is essential in Islam. It is with this principle in mind that Hilm was founded. Hilm’s aim is to work towards activities and programs that meet the needs of the local Muslim community. These may take the shape of summer camps, seminars, or food drives, but it also includes recreational activities, volunteering, and working with other groups (Muslim and non-Muslim) to strengthen the society we live in at large.
